Pick a PDF and get a copy of 5 MB or less. Lossless mode keeps text selectable; image mode saves pages as pictures and reaches much smaller sizes.

How it works

  1. Choose a PDF document.
  2. Lossless mode re-saves the file without touching the content; guaranteed mode turns the pages of a file over the limit into images.
  3. The tool finds the highest resolution and quality that fit the limit.
  4. Download the smaller PDF.

Didn’t fit? What to do

  • PDFs over 5 MB are usually multi-page scans or contain photos: try lossless mode first, then image mode.
  • Exports from design apps can carry full-resolution images; image mode shrinks them the most.
  • If the portal accepts several files, split a long PDF instead of squeezing it into one.
  • Zoom in on small print after compressing to check it is still readable.

Frequently asked questions

Is 5 MB 5,000 KB or 5,120 KB?

Portals differ. The tool targets 5,000,000 bytes: exactly 5 MB in decimal units and about 5% under 5 MiB (5,242,880 bytes), so the file passes whichever way the portal counts.

Will the text stay selectable?

In lossless mode, yes. In image mode, pages become pictures, so text can no longer be selected or searched.

Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?

No. Compression runs in your browser, so even a large confidential document never leaves your device.
